Spam Filtering using Outlook Express

If you are getting lots of spam from your website and you have Outlook Express configured to send and receive webmail you can use message rules to get rid of spam.

  1. Identify words specific to the spam message
  2. For example with "TOP" and "BRANDS"
  3. Click "Tools", "Message Rules", "Mail"

  4. Click " New"
  5. Check the box "Where the message body contains specific words"
  6. Click on the blue link in the third window to enter the words
  7. Type the first word and click "Add"
  8. Type any subsequent words and click "Add" for each one
  9. Click "Options" and "Message matches all of the words below"

  10. Check the box "Delete from server "
  11. Give the rule a name then click "OK"
  12. With the new rule you created highlighted click "Copy"
  13. Give this a new name if you like then click "Modify"
  14. Change the second option to "Delete it"

  15. Then in the same window, check "Stop processing more rules"
  16. Click "OK"
  17. This takes you back to the first dialogue "Message Rules"
  18. If you have set up a rule to direct your webmail to a folder
  19. Highlight the webmail rule (not the spam rule)
  20. Click "Move down" until it is at the bottom of the list of rules
  21. Click "OK" and you're done!
